Leisure Isle Sports Club was founded in 1963 providing 1 green for bowls and 1 court (A) for tennis. In the early years the tennis players were largely Island residents and included families such as the Wiles. Further courts were added over time, the B court in 1968 and the C court in 1983/1984.

As the Club grew it was decided to form an umbrella body to be called the Leisure Isle Country Club who would have an overarching responsibility for the buildings and grounds of the Club, with the Tennis and Bowls sections having a fair degree of autonomy with their own committees. As a result, to this day the Country Club continues to handle all finances, the grounds and Cearn Hall; while Bowls and Tennis are responsible for the day to day running of their sections.
